Jane is an English primatologist and anthropologist. She is best known for her 60-year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees since she first went to Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania in 1960. By protecting chimpanzees and inspiring people to conserve the natural world we all share, we improve the lives of people, animals and the environment.
Thanks to Jane’s research and dedication we have learned a great deal about the species that shares 99% of our DNA. Chimpanzees have many physical characteristics in common with humans, and many that are uniquely their own.
She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots programme, and she has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues. Goodall has received many honours for her environmental and humanitarian work, as well as others.
